I had to show you the after photo first. By the end of the post, you'll love this, I promise! I have to say, sometimes I absolutely love what I do. Yesterday, my day started off a bit rocky and stressful but by the end- so much fun with one phone call! My best friend Dania has started a make up artistry business. Way back in the day, we used to work the make up counters at Broadway(now Macy's) together. She is and has always been a genius with make up, and now she gets to do it full time. Long story short- I needed some work opportunities for my Canon job-called Dania up, she suggested me coming to the movie set that she was working on and taking pics. Then, she had an appt. after that for a Halloween make up application for a friend. Off I went!!! Halloween, and a movie set??? Ummm, yea, I'm there!
So, this is Julie. She is the girl in the photo above!!! Dania, did an amazing job with her makeup. Julie had the costume somewhat put together, but still needed some help. It literally took 3 of us putting this costume together. Julie saw a photo of this costume online and wanted to make it for herself. So, here we go with the make up!
Dania did her face very pale, and I love the way she did her eyes!! In this picture she is making her lips kind of pouty.
Make up, done! Now, the outfit......
This is Dania, taping up the "off with her head" part to the costume. How this girl wore this all night long, is beyond me, but she was in the Army at one point in her life, so I guess she is used to a heavy pack on her back!
I thought this would give you a visual on how this costume was put together. It was so much fun trying to figure out how to put this together.
Dania getting the Marie wig sparkly!
Here, Dania is adding a movie makeup trick for her severed head effect. It's sooooo cool how she does this!
Julie bought these creepy white contacts, they really set the costume off! They were perfect!
The last step was to add some chunky yucky drippy blood to the neck of the mannequin.
What do ya think??? I love love love this!!! I can't thank Dania enough for letting me tag along and help out with this and take pictures. Seriously, if you need an amazing makeup artist for your next event, wedding, or even a photo shoot, my girl Dania is the girl for you!! Here is her website Cosmiix. She has lots of photos of her previous sessions. It was too much fun!
I had a little fun with Picnik on this photo. I hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!!! Tomorrow pics of my goddaughter dressing up as "Snooki", she even has the accent down! I think I gotta video this one!
Tonight I had an early birthday dinner with some fabulous friends. It is so great and exactly what I needed, kind of a stress ful day, and to end it with amazing friends-I couldn't ask for more. Miss Heidi, my cohort sometimes on the road, put together a little surprise dinner for me at the seriously Fabulous Olive & Ivy in Scottsdale on the waterfront. This place is a beautiful restaurant, that makes the yummiest Amaretto Sours, I might add.
Shelly and Minnie made me this super cool repurposed necklace made from an old drawer handle, and a sparkly fleur de lis. I'll add the picture tomorrow, not enough light tonight. When these two ladies get together the creativity really flies out everywhere!! They have lots of plans in the works! Heidi gave me this totally funny card with a Thelma & Louise reference that made me laugh all the way home. But the best part was she wanted to give me a gift certificate to this massage place that she had been to in the past, but when she went there they were closed down because of hiring illegals and a few other unmentionable reasons. So she is on the hunt for a new massage biz. A good friend knows what you need-that was perfect. Or maybe me complaning so much in Texas about my back reminded her-hee hee :)
I just wanted to share their thoughtfullness with you all. I was so touched by them taking me to dinner. Just to have a few drinks, yummy flatbread, and lots of laughs-perfect! Thank you, ladies. I loved all of it.
Just thought this photo I took this past Sunday would bring a smile to your face. Isn't this the sweetest little pooch? Her name is Vivienne Leigh, her Mama is Tery of Bottoms Up Antique Market in Kansas City. While doing a photo shoot for my upcoming issue of Blissfully Traveled magazine there, Miss Vivienne was there and I had to take her picture. I think I took as many of this cute little dog as I did the antique market!
This was the face I got from her after about 20 pictures. I think she was getting a little diva-ish in this photo! Not too happy!
I also have to share an improptu class I've added to the schedule on Friday-yes, this friday! At Scrapbook Barn in Gilbert from 11-2. I'll be doing this FREE demo from Canon. You will make the little 3x3 Mini Photo Book that is it at the top right corner in the photo. All you need to bring is a memory stick,USB flash drive or CD rom with at least 15 photos you want to print out. Easy-Peasy! This little photo book is so cute, it makes a great stocking stuffer, or brag book! Hope to see you there!
Tell Me Bout the Good Ole Days Show Nov. 5th & 6th 9-4 Redlands, CA I'll be here with all my California friends and their amazing creations. Get a jump on holiday shopping or just find some bargains!! Just take a look at where this great show is going to be held....
I can't wait to see this gorgeous piece of property!!!! I'll see you there!!!
Then, Dec. 3rd and 4th Chateau de Fleurs!!!! One of my favorite shows to do. I missed the last one, only got to shop, not sell. So I'll be there with bells on!!! Some of the most creative and talented vendors are here. And Dean's cooking.....fabulous!!!!! You don't want to miss this one!!!! Rita and Christie put together a great show and try to make sure everyone has a good time.
And a new class on the schedule!!! Copper Etching!!! Have you ever wanted to learn this technique? Now you can and use it to make TONS of different projects! I will be teaching this at Urban Barn on Nov. 13th, two classes or stay for both and get lunch too! The first one is a mini copper etched cover book. You will learn all the materials you need and how to etch on copper. Lots of info and practicing in this class. You will leave with a finished project.
Then, in the afternoon, the second class we will make a mixed materials copper etched necklace. The only thing you would need to bring is some jewelry pliers. Or email me for more info. You can sign up on the Urban Barn blog at the bottom, look for the Paypal link. Lots more classes coming up too. More info on those this week. And this copper etching class will be coming to Phoenix too!
Curious Sofa is a constant. It never disappoints. Deb and creative crew always have an amazing array of fabulous wares for you and your home. It is one of my must see places when I come to KC. This time of year is my favorite though. Her Fall and Halloween displays are always cutting edge and completely different than anywhere else you've seen.
loved this old doll trunk, I really wanted to take it home with me
They always keep you on your toes at Curious Sofa. Gorgeous and inviting displays for you to create in your own home. You can also see more pics of Curious Sofa in this issue of my magazine Blissfully Traveled. It gives you the who, what, when, and where to lots of shops in KC in this issue. It features some photos of one of my favorite Halloween displays at Curious Sofa a few years ago.
On a side note, while shopping in Curious Sofa a familiar face that I blog-stalk walks in. Carol Spinski of Raised in Cotton blog. I debated in my head whether I should go up and introduce myself as a "blog-stalker", I decided yes. Perfect decision. Carol was super nice and sweet and didn't think I was a wacko(at least I don't think so) We talked about her amazingly gorgeous farmhouse she acquired a while back and all the renovations that ensues, her new work in Fifi's book, and lots of Texas talk. Of course, I didn't get a picture. Too busy talking. She also just did a write up on Curious Sofa in Romantic Country(or Romantic Homes-I can't remember). She is an amazing photographer as well. Check her blog out if you haven't already.
So, this is the line I stood in yesterday to get into the KC Junior League Holiday Mart. It is one of my favorite things to do while here in KC in October. The Mart is once a year and is filled with amazing shopping & food! There are vendors from all over with great clothing, jewelry, and home decor. I do have a few favorite vendors I always hit first. It is very hard to take pictures because there are people EVERYWHERE! You definitely have to take dose of patience with you!
Ummmmm----sooooooooooo doing this to my register!!!!!!!!!! Sure, in my barrels of spare time I have sitting around the house. Maybe, just wait and see!
I WANT THIS JACKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yea, $200 later, not! But I still want it!
This booth had the coolest tshirts, and yes I bought one!
see what I mean by crazy shopping??!!
I think Texas has rubbed off on me cuz I like these boots!!!
This is Art by Amy's booth. SHe has fun and funky jewely. I wasn't supposed to take pics but I got a few anyways! just for you all! You know I got you.
This booth was Annette's Touch of Class. More fun and funky jewelry and tees.
It was a blast and I'll be back here again next year, maybe with a vendor booth???
And Yes! Third Thirsdays are more fun than a roll in the hay!! Third Thursdays are back on 7th Ave!! All your favorite shops and vendors will be there. (except me, just this time, I'm going out of town again tomorrow) But the fun continues! Just take a look at all the stores that will be open late for your shopping enjoyment...
My girl Paris Montana will be there with her Blacktop Jewelbox Boudoir. If you have missed Third Thursdays in the past , now is your time to come and check it out! There's more though.....
Make sure you stop by Zinnia's on 7th Ave & Indian School for the "Chili Night" Nothing says Fall like yummy Chili! This is a great way to support local and small businesses in your town. The only way for our economy to bounce back is for all of us to spend a little here and there in our local businesses. Even if you come down and just get some dinner in one of the famous eateries on 7th Ave! Have fun!
It's been a long time coming but I got one!!!!!!! She needs a bit of work, but that's okay. I don't mind. This was my other reason for going to California the past couple of days, to pick up this sweet beauty!! The amazing-hearted Linda let me buy this from her, and if you have looked at her blog lately you will see why! She bought this gorgeous gypsy roulette cart. I told Linda from the day I saw this at her house a couple of years ago, when you are ready to let her go, please let me know. And now was the perfect time! My Aunt from Tucson came over with me and we hitched her up and brought her home!
It has this cute little screen door on it. Love it! I have big plans for her. I am going to take the "Bliss Lounge" to shows but I also want to have kind of a traveling classroom, where we can set it up and do classes/shop from the inside.
As you can see, I have a lot of work to do! The best part of the inside is that the formica has PINK in it!!!
I am going to go with my retro pin up girl theme, like some of the canvases that I make. Seems kinda fitting for a retro 1961 trailer, don't ya think??
Now, I just have to hurry up before my stupid HOA fines me!! Hee hee. I have to thank Linda over and over again. SHE made this all possible!! If it weren't for her generousity(did I spell that right?) I would not have this. SHe is an amazing woman with a huge heart. I can't thank her enough, only try to continue to be a great friend and supporter of her business. I might even call her the "Linda Lounge"! Hee Hee. But she will be back at the Urban Barn and soon as she is spit-shined and road worthy, and definitely going to Texas!!! Here comes the "Circling of the Wagons" ladies!!!
PS. You can take a sip of "haterade" this morning too. I would be, I give you permission. I don't mind. Love ya!
Check out Linda's new ride!!!! Is that not the MOST amazing thing ever???????!!!!!!! This is the beginning of her new project- Gypsy Roulette cart. I can't wait to see what she is going to do with it. She has lots of plans and has already picked out some amazing fabrics. Linda is amazing and what she has going on at the Barn- is unstoppable!
This is cute Meg Harper in front of the Gypsy Roulette. Why I didn't get a picture in front of it, I don't know??? I'm always taking pics and forget about me! Next time, you know I'll be back!
a few vignettes from the Barn......
Mary's beautiful mess-this lady can make a parking spot glitter!
seriously??? Is this not the funniest picture??!! This little guy came to visit us yesterday at the Barn, this is how is owner carried him around. The dog loved it! He would hop in the bag and stick his little nose through there!
sold these awesome vintage sequin blouses yesterday, I really wanted to keep them! Why can't I keep it all?
The hardest working lady on the planet, Linda and some regular shoppers at the Barn.
SO much to share this week. I'll be back tomorrow with more pics of the beginning of something BIG! I can't wait to show you!!!
