Unpretty to Pretty

 
So here is unpretty.....missing drawer, stupid stickers, unloved, dirty....

 
ta-dah! baby dresser got a new dress! I picked up this "hot mess" of dresser a couple of weeks ago and had an idea or two about it, but then left it for later. So this morning bright and early, I was at it! Ran to Target for an extender rod, and began sewing a little "dress" for the gapping hole where a drawer used to be. I had thought about painting it white, but blah-blah, so boring. Everything is white, blah! It has this absolutely gorgeous color of seafoam-vintage 50's green, and I just couldn't paint over it. Yes, it was stained up, and needed some sanding to get  who knows what off, but I love it. The green stays!

 
And the stupid stickers are there for now, still trying to figure out how to get the damn things off! They are very flat, not like a sticker. I sanded one off on the side, but it leaves some sanding marks, don't want to do that to the front. I may cover it with pretty paper, or leave them. They are kinda cool, kinda not??Anyways, just wanted to show what you could do with a dresser that may be missng a drawer, you could be missing out on a cute piece of furniture, don't walk by.

A Little Revisiting

 
So I thought I would do a little revisiting this morning. Back in 2005 I had a store, some of you who read this blog were visitors of my store. I loved it. It was my 3rd child. It was located in Chandler,AZ and I tried to fill it with some of the cutest and best things I could find. I had the majority of filled with antiques and vintage goods and then there was a small part for paper art supplies/classes. My two favorite things. I never been able to sell just one of those hobbies, I have to have both-call me greedy. I don't mind.

 
Now this was before I knew about blogs, so the pics are just ones I took to scrapbook or for myself-not really blog worthy or artistic photos. I did have some pretty darn cool sh*t, if I must say so myself! My store was located in a small area of the oldest homes in Chandler that were turned into shops by the landlord. The cutest setting, very garden-y and pretty. I had an outdoor patio that housed an antique carriage that was a ton of fun to decorate for Fall with pumpkins and hay bales.

 
As you can see, I have always loved things pink & pretty. Eclectic- a mish mash.

 
I also sold some creations made by local friends in there. This is where I also met Maija , Michelle, Kim, and a few more.

 
I only had this shop for 6 months, I was working 2 other jobs at the same time -Real Estate and a full time Merchandising position with a major toy company. Yes, I am a multi-tasker! I can't help it. It was a bit too much for me, and then some major drama happened and the store just had to go. Too much on me. So I decided I couldn't let this go, I decided then I would just do shows like Art Unraveled and local flea markets. I had no idea at the time of shows or the confidence to travel to shows in other parts of the country.

 
This was part of my paper art supply section. My favorite was the old door hanging on the wall, and then I used hooks to hang stuff off of. I had lots of 7Gypsies products, I have loved their stuff from the beginning!

 
 
 
I miss this store immensely. I think about opening a store sometimes, but I just don't think right now is the right time. I actually have too much fun traveling. And I love to travel. I love being a part of the stores and events that I sell at-Paris Montana, Zinnia's, Urban Barn, and soon to be Sweet Salvage! I think that is enough to keep me busy! Anyways, that was a quick trip down memory lane and an introduction to some of you whom I have met in the past few years who didn't know I had a store. But here's one more secret.....I had a store several years before this one! More on that in another post-still trying to find all those pics! I hope you all have a great and safe Memorial Weekend. The Pursuit of Pretty Tour

 

So next week kicks off something I have planned for what seems like, forever now! Now that I have this little beauty called the "Bliss Lounge" I'm ready to hit the road even more! At the beginning of the year, I formed a business plan in my head. I didn't tell too many people about it, but have been working on it in the background inbetween the many shows and drama going on. It's coming together slowly, but surely. I'm impatient I want it all to happen now, so I'm learning patience, don't like it. So I have put together "The Pursuit of Pretty Tour" Summer 2011. I'll be heading out next week to start it and it doesn't end until the end of July! It's too dang hot in AZ in the summer, and I'm ready to GO!

 
I'll be starting first at The Vintage Marketplace in Rainbow, CA with all my great CA friends Rita, Christie Repasy, Lisa Loria, and about 30 other amazingly talented vendors! I have done this show for over a year now and love it, love it! One of the best! June 3rd & 4th    9-5 in their new location- The Oaks!!

 
Next, The Bridal Show back in Phoenix on June 12th with my girl Heidi of Paris Montana. I'll have lots of my altered vintage slips for sale there.

 
To round out the month of June--Urban Barn!  Their street faire will be June 17th & 18th   9-4. I'll be there Friday only. Bliss Lounge will be there too!! Yippee!! The Street Faire here is always a fun time, and lots of treasures to be found!

 
And can't wait to go back to Papertales in San Diego!! Adore this amazing little paper art store. They have everything and are always a blast! I'll be teaching this Beeswax Pennant Banner Class on June 18th, check their blog for details and sign up info. This class is a great beginning beeswax  and intermediate class if you have already worked with beeswax. We will be working with lots of vintage materials and learning collage techniques.

 
THEN, in July I am setting sail for Kansas City!! Soooooooo dang excited for this trip!! I have been wanting to come to this show for over a year now, and it's finally happening! I'm spending 3 weeks in July in the KC area. I'll be the amazing Bottoms Up! show that is held the first Friday & Saturday each month in the Bottoms of KC. This show is held in an amazing old warehouse building. I did an article about this show in the last issue of Blissfully Traveled, you have to check it out! I'll have more info as the show gets closer.

After that, I'll be at the Antiques & Art Fair in Independence,MO at the Bingham-Wagonner Estate. It is held at this gorgeous Victorian Estate. Very excited and nervous about this one! More details as it gets closer.

So, that is my summer in a nutshell! The Pursuit of Pretty Tour kicks off next week! I'll take lots of pics and update you! I'll see you around!

Urban Barn Thank YOU!

 
I have start by saying a HUGE Thank You to all of you who came out to this past weekend's Street Faire at Urban Barn. I nearly sold out! I was supposed to set up a space at the Barn, but didn't have anything left to leave!! I guess that's a good thing, huh?! I always have a blast when I am there, and we all have a good time. Love it.

Urban Barn and Junk Mafia

 
Listen this morning to Kansas City radio show Junk Mafia online, just click on the little red radio at 10:15(8:15 AZtime) to hear my report on Urban Barn. Junk Mafia is a radio show featuring Darren Smith, Fancy Smith of Cactus Creek Daily, and John Todd of Kansas City. They report on junking, reloving, and reusing. They give you lots of great places for day trips and some useful information about recycling. They travel about as much as I do, and have made friends far and wide. They are looking for more Junk Reporters for the radio show that streams live on the internet, so if you are wanting more info and want to get your area on the map, look them up!

Sweet Salvage

 
Sooooooo excited to be a part of this new shopping venture here in the Phoenix area,

Sweet Salvage will be opening in August here in Phoenix in the Melrose District. Yippee!! And myself and the Bliss Lounge will be a part of "Gypsy Row" in the Once a Month sale that Kim & Katie and Heather & Stephanie are putting together in a really cool old building with lots of character. The girls just back from a whirlwind shopping trip to fill it up! Check their blog for updates and the Grand Opening!!

New Class at Papertales!!

 
Yippee!!!!! I'm coming back to Papertales in San Diego!! I absolutely adore this little paper art store that could! The ladies at Papertales are so fun and sweet. They have soooo much great paper supplies it makes your head spin!

I recently acquired a huge collection of vintage greeting cards and wanted to make something with them. I photocopied them and put together this very pretty Beewax Collage Banner. There are several layers to each pennant that make each one so darn cute! I'm bringing lots of vintage supplies to share in the class. It is a fun way to learn how to incorporate beeswax into your projects. I love love working with this medium, I think you will too!

Here is the class description:  

Come play with Tricia and learn how to work with beeswax in your collage making. She's is bringing a huge collection of vintage greeting card images for you to use in this project plus a ton of her other awesome vintage supplies to use in this class. You will make 5 individual pennants in a sweet, shabby chic, cottage style look and then string them together for your banner. There are several layers to this collage technique that you will be able to use in lots of your collage projects. You are welcome to bring anything that you might want to incorporate in your collage pieces.

Getting ready to pack up the van and Bliss Lounge to head out to my favorite place-Urban Barn! This coming weekend is the Street Faire and I have a class!! The Street faire is Friday and Saturday from 9-4. I'll have my fun little '61 Vintage trailer with me for you to tour through. Woohoo!! There are still a couple of openings if you are in the area and want to learn a fun and easy technique.

Flea Market! Flea Market!

 
Tomorrow morning bright and early 7am to noon to best Flea Market in the East Valley will kick off!! (I'll actually be there about 5am! Yikes!)  I really love this flea market, I just wish I could shop and sell at the SAME TIME!!! That's how much fun it is! This will be the last one til October, it's just too dang hot here! Pillow Talk

 
Lots of shows coming up and I have had pillows on the brain!! I used to make them a longggg time ago, and then got bored of it. So, of course it has come around again. There are soooo many gorgeous fabrics and trims, my head starts spinning when I go to the fabric store!! This one is made of burlap and has the way cool printed burlap on top with some soft trim along the edge.

 
It measures about 18" long and 10" tall, kinda big. Love it!!

 
 
Next, is this HUGEEEEEE pillow for a friend who's daughter is graduating soon and going to make her dorm room in a gypsy theme. She brought me a HUGE pillow to make a cover for with all these gypsy style fabrics. The tablecover is for her graduation party and then will be made into her duvet for her bed. I have one more pillow to do, but had to show you all this one.

 
 
 
Here is the backside. They are picking up the pillow and tablecover this saturday, can't wait to see their reaction. It also gives me some ideas for more pillows!!
